windhaven exhalations

an irregular blog from Windhaven Press

A blog about New England, politics in New Hampshire, book publishing, rennovating a 200-year-old farmhouse & barn, knitting, cats & other mayhem.

Blogger seems to have completed their upgrade, but my archives are still wonky. If you want to see photos of the ongoing chaos -- I mean, construction -- of our house and barn, you'll need to be patient. If you click on the achives to see past photos, the archives only show the first entry for any given week. Alas. That means more than half my entires are in limbo.

In fact, it's now showing only the first entry on my main page, too, no matter how I jiggle the settings then "republish" the entire blog.

I have a note in to Blogger about this, but no response so far. I don't know if I'll ever get any, in fact.

If not, then I'll need to decide if I should move to yet another server that can handle Movable Type, and learn how to use it.

If anyone has any suggestions, consolations, or aspirin, please contact me. Leave a message or email. Thanks.

Now back to my regularly scheduled headache.

Somehow this doesn't surprise me. After all, I already knew I was a grammar elitist. Anyone who feels compelled to tell restaurants about typos in their menus is doomed, like me, to a purgatorial life surrounded by others who abuse the English language. Just kidding. Um, actually, no. I'm not kidding. Take the quiz now and I'll shut up.

Pentagon Washes Hands of Dove (washingtonpost.com)

Despite substantial improvements in security, the Pentagon is still vulnerable to enemy attack, officials there found out on Wednesday afternoon. A dove, of all things, somehow flew in and made its way completely unhindered up to the fourth floor E-Ring, perching itself in the Air Force corridor.

This placed the offending harbinger of peace one floor up and directly above the office of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld. (Actually it was a beige-y pink mourning dove, or Zenaida macroura, believed to be a juvenile.)

... The punchline is a must-read.
